The Society of St. Vincent de Paul is dedicated to offering personalized assistance to those in need, making their work truly unique. This support can come in various forms, such as intervention, consultation, or direct financial or in-kind services. A core principle of the Society is to provide help while maintaining the confidentiality and dignity of those they serve. They also advocate for those who are defenseless or voiceless. Each year, Vincentians in the United States assist around 12 million people, including nearly 800 individuals in St. Pio Parish.
As an international Catholic voluntary organization, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul tackles poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to needy people. Vincentians, the members of the Society, are men and women who grow spiritually by offering person-to-person service. They come from diverse backgrounds, encompassing all ages, skin colors, and financial statuses. United by a spirit of poverty, humility, and sharing, Vincentians are driven by the belief that their blessings—whether time, talent, or treasure—are meant to be shared with those in need. They are part of a global community of friends, nourished by prayer, reflection, and mutual support.
The St. Pio Conference of St. Vincent de Paul conducts interviews with those in need, either at the parish office or in their homes, to assess their needs and determine how best to assist them. Their work primarily covers the parish boundaries, including 11.7 square miles of Roseville and the southern half of Fraser. Assistance is not limited to parishioners; they collaborate with other conferences and organizations when needs exceed their resources. Funding comes from the generosity of members and parishioners, fundraisers, energy grants, and community block grants.
Membership in the conference requires a genuine concern for those in need, rational decision-making, and respect for client confidentiality. Meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Monday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Parish Social Hall.
For more information about the conference or to contribute or become a member, please contact Jim Chamberlin, President, at the St. Vincent de Paul office at (586) 334-4333 or email [email protected].
