“‘The intimate community of life and love which constitutes the married state has been established by the Creator and endowed by him with its own proper laws. . . . God himself is the author of marriage.’ The vocation to marriage is written in the very nature of man and woman as they came from the hand of the Creator. Marriage is not a purely human institution despite the many variations it may have undergone through the centuries in different cultures, social structures, and spiritual attitudes.” (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1603)
St. Pio Parish welcomes you and congratulates you as you come to request marriage in the Catholic Church. The celebration you are planning and the lifelong commitment you are choosing to make, are a sign of God’s great love for all of us.

The Archdiocese of Detroit requiers at least 6 months for marriage preparation.
Remember that this engagement time is not primarily a time to prepare for a wedding—but rather a time to prepare for the Sacrament of marriage. It is a time to examine your decision to enter into a commitment of marriage; your relationship as a couple; and your readiness for the responsibilities of married life.
"Marriage is based on the consent of the contracting parties, that is, on their will to give themselves, each to the other, mutually and definitively, in order to live a covenant of faithful and fruitful love." (Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1662)
