"The Lord Jesus Christ, physician of our souls and bodies, who forgave the sins of the paralytic and restored him to bodily health, has willed that his Church continue, in the power of the Holy Spirit, his work of healing and salvation, even among her own members. This is the purpose of . . .the sacrament of Anointing of the Sick.” Catechism of the Catholic Church, #1421
The Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick brings healing, comfort, and strength, through the grace of the Holy Spirit, to those who are sick or elderly.
The Sacrament for the Anointing of the Sick is for anyone who is gravely ill, anticipating a surgery, is in danger of death due to sickness or old age, and desires God’s sacramental presence, spiritual healing, and grace.
It is important to note that when a person is in the process of dying it is advisable for the family not to wait until death is imminent before requesting the sacrament.
